FAQs

What are your rates, and why aren’t they posted?

Our rates aren’t posted on our site because they are dependent on the size, type, running time, and condition of your asset(s), and are often unique to each project! Estimates for jobs are always subject to change once we get eyes on your media. Please contact us with your needs, and we will get back to you within 24-48 hours with rates and answers to any questions you may have.

do you transfer video?

Nope. But we will do our best to refer you. Keep in mind that we are probably googling the same information you are.

What if I need something Transferred that isn’t listed here?

Email us! The independent audio archiving community is small, very self supportive, and we often refer clients to each other for formats we don’t run. If it’s audio, we will know someone who can do it, and do it well.

DO my Polyester tapes Actually need to be baked?

Yes. If they were manufactured before 2010. Baking your tapes at the low temperatures that are standard will not damage the audio printed on them, and will result in smoother transfers. Baking is included in our per asset rates. Here’s a link that explains Sticky-Shed Syndrome, and why it’s gross:

are there specific shipping instructions for magnetic media?

Yes! We will give you this info before shipping your assets!

how safe are my assets while on site? Who sees them?

Very. Fire safe secure.

Just us. We will never post identifiable photos, video, or audio of your assets online or on social media. We will post/repost your reissue or project once it’s released in support!

is CAA willing to sign an NDA?

Yes. Usually. It depends on the specifics of the NDA.

What if my assets are damaged in transit?

Our return shipping through UPS offers a basic level of insurance. Obviously your assets are priceless, especially on their way to us. We recommend you use UPS or FedEx and insure your deliveries. If you are able, 2 Day Air is the most secure and dependable shipping option for sensitive assets for the price. We do not recommend you use USPS. With that being said, Ground shipping is the usual choice, and is extremely dependable.
If you feel your assets are too sensitive to ship, you can drive them here, or we can come to you. CAA is not liable for damage during transit.

WHat if my assets are damaged during transfer?

Because some assets are in really rough shape, our prep procedures (incubation, repair, remediation, etc.) are sometimes not enough to retain the integrity of the medium. Especially digital assets from the 80’s & 90’s. If we think at anytime during the transfer process that your asset will sustain irreparable damage, we will ALWAYS contact you first before moving forward.
